A year ago I wrote a post for Rock On Mommies about Pie vs. Cupcakes. In 2010 it was predicted that Pie would be the new dessert trend in 2011. Cupcakes would dwindle in popularity, leaving Pies as the new reigning dessert champ.
Well? I’m going to have to say that if the championship battle between Pies and Cupcakes, Cupcakes still remains the ultimate victor.
Sure, we’ve seen some fun new things happening with cupcakes and cakes, and I have seen posts and photos of pie pops circulating around, but I haven’t seen a big enough trend change to say that Pie was the new ‘Cupcake’ in 2011. Which, I can’t help but wonder if Cupcakes will be able to hold the title for another year. I really am curious to see if there is a dessert out there that can challenge cupcakes popularity and really give it a challenge worthy of claiming ‘Newest Trendy Dessert’, or something along those lines.
Desserts be warned. If you are stepping up to this challenge you have your work cut out for you. Cupcakes rank high in popular deserts, have blogs dedicated to them, and even chain bakeries keeping cupcakes in the hands of dessert lovers all across the country.
So who will reign supreme? Cake Pops? Cake Push-ups? Will Pie have their chance this year? Can Cupcakes ‘take the cake’ another year? Or is there a new contender we’ve overlooked? I’m hoping major blogs and websites like Foodista, and Better Crocker Bloggers share their opinions on this. I’m curious to see where the general consensus lies, and who I’ll be blogging as the victor next year.
